A Time to Build

Now that we’ve all had some time to think (or in some cases, wring our hands) about what’s next, I hope that many of you have been able to create a plan or vision that gives you joy, or at least hope. I’ve taken the position of building, and it’s given me a renewed sense of purpose.

Again, one of the benefits of sheltering in place is that I’ve been off the road and not spending a good chunk of my day driving to and from meetings. It’s freed up the time and mind-space that has made this new building phase possible. Instead of us just keeping up with the agency and workload, I feel as if I’m back to building very intentionally. Here’s what I’ve been focusing on:

  • Building a culture of excellence that we can all be proud of
  • Assembling a group of individuals dedicated to this excellence and a “team first” mentality
  • Fine-tuning our processes for accuracy, efficiency, and higher quality
  • Ditching my “Jill-of-all-trades” mentality to focus on best-in-class services

Don’t get me wrong, there have been many a rocky patch the last two-and-a-half months. But in the end, the opportunities to build have been irreplaceable. I hope that has been true for you, too.
